Nothing like saying ‘what’s up spring?’ with a trusty all black outfit. I mean, really, what else did you expect? As much as I keep trying to branch out with new pieces (and I really am trying), I always find myself coming back to black basics. It’s just so easy to mix and match my favorite black pieces to create new looks, no matter the season. Yes, I feel very redundant at this point, but alas, that’s about all I’ve got for you guys on this last Friday in March.
I’m sitting here, staring at my screen, waiting for inspiration to strike me, and I’m thinking ‘well, I’ll just write about how to get inspired to write a blog post.’ Very meta huh? Is that what meta is? I’ve never really understood the whole meta thing. Butttt I digress. In all honesty, I don’t think that I could tell you anything helpful about how to get inspired to write a blog post. I am always telling Catherine that she is so good at writing mindful, inspired posts and I’m always over here like HEY HOW COOL IS THIS DRESS? (more…)
Splattered across social media and consuming small talk conversations over the past week has been the crazy weather – at least in our neck of the woods. A few weeks ago we were graced with 8 and a half inches of snow here in RVA and by Thursday it was a balmy 68 degrees. In such situations, I have got to make sure I am prepared for whatever may come my way when I walk out the door in the morning.
This year for Christmas, my husband (aka Mr. TCP) got me this fabulous Rebecca Minkoff backpack. I have been wanting a backpack since they were on the cusp of being trendy and Johnny really pulled through with the perfect one. I showed him this one as an example and was overjoyed on Christmas morning to find it under the tree.
However, I have become so accustomed to styling my crossbody and tote bags, so when I went to use this one with an outfit, it was a little awkward at first to say the least. Do I put it on? Do I hold the top loop? Cath, what do I do with this!? After trying any and all possibilities I found that for photos, over one shoulder is definitely the way to go. Wearing it practically on my back is perfect for gallivanting around Richmond and on the streets of New York, but it just did not work in photos. So in case you have been struggling with a similar issue, there it is.
I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite backpacks for youuuuu below!
Well folks, here we are in 2017 and I am going to write a little bit about my goals, as cliche as it it may be. 2016 was an amazing year- John and I bought a house, my sister and Catherine both got engaged, I started helping my mom out with her Turkish Towel biz, and of course the blog has continued to flourish (thank you all for your help with that!) That being said, it was a veryyyyy busy year and things were so overwhelming at times that it was tempting to just shut down completely. My goal for 2017 is to avoid said meltdown moments.
*I feel like I start a lot of posts like this but…* One of my favorite things about being a blogger is getting to work with brands that otherwise would not be on our day to day radar. (No offense to H&M, Zara, Forever 21 & Free People because we love those brands, of course). From local jewelry designers to companies trying to make a splash with one simple piece to amazingly crafted wears from designers abroad, we’ve been exposed to some seriously talented folks and I love getting to write about it on here. Gosh, it has seriously been a rainy few weeks here in RVA! Thankfully, the sun came out for a little bit for us to have some photos snapped by our friends at J&D Photography. They are so good at making us look good and I love em for it! Our social media has gotten an overhaul from these awesome pix and we recently got a new snapchat account – ADD US: thecrystal press 🙂
*As Seen on The Crystal PressOn Monday, Catherine showed off her new Zappos x Shopstyle pieces and the versatility of an awesome LNA Maxiand now its my turn! Along the same lines, I chose pieces that I knew I would wear over and over again and can become staples in to my day-to-day outfit rotation. Every girl needs that perfect pair of boyfriend jeans to throw on to go to the movies, or out for a day of festival hopping and I found these Levi’s 501 Tapered pair to be the perfect fit for me!
Basically every single piece in this outfit is a staple and thats what I love about each thing and also why I can always count on Zappos to have what I’m looking for. For the most part, I like to stick to pretty minimalistic style and add a fun twist when it feels appropriate. In this case, the Splendid Jaylen Heels take this Blouse + BF Jeans outfit from day to night with ease!
Catherine and I are also lucky enough to be able to share shoes, which is truly a game changer! We both wore the Birkenstocks and the Splendid shoes with our Zappos Spring Picks and we chose them for that reason. We knew we could both put them to good use this Spring, and we know this won’t be our first shoe-swapping adventure. Head to Zappos to find some new basics, or that fun top you’ve been dying to add to your night-on-the-town looks!
